The purpose of the program is to celebrate Greek culture, with performances incorporating both the country’s ancient heritage and combining it with a more modern creative spin.
The event is planned to start on Friday, July 18, starting with Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili in a gratis performance. The Greek National Opera and conductor Lukas Karytinos will also be in accompaniment to perform operas in the Roman Agora in Athens.
In an effort to reach out to a much wider audience, the concert will also be broadcasted live on the National Opera’s website, as well as the Ministry of Culture’s new digital platform.
Performers are hoping that the program will promote more openness to the Greek arts and help financially support them during the pandemic, as the event will be free of charge.
According to Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, “As we have not charged a ticket, it will be at the discretion of the viewers abroad, if they wish, to make a donation to the National Theatre in lieu of a ticket,” she stated during a press conference on Tuesday, July 14.
“All Greece, one Culture” will include 270 performances and cultural activities held across 122 different venues throughout Greece, up until September 30.
