Greece Terms US Secretary of State — Turkish FM Meeting "Constructive"

While speaking to reporters on Monday, Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas said that it is clear that Greece’s partners throughout the world condemn the recent Turkish provocations in the Mediterranean.
“We are defending our sovereign rights, always with respect for the good neighborly relations and for international law and the law of the sea,” he stated. He underscored that there is only one pending issue with Turkey, namely the demarcation of the maritime borders of the nation.
Petsas also characterized US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s Sunday afternoon meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, as “constructive and useful.”
“It reaffirmed that the USA’s stance in the last months is far away from the ‘equal distances’ policy,” he stated, adding that its position is clear: the Greek islands have continental shelves and Exclusive Economic Zones, and it condemns Turkeys’ provocative actions.
The government spokesman then commented that “The United States is a useful partner at this conjuncture in order to have a way out in the de-escalation phase.”
