The US State Department issued a new call for Turkey to cease its actions in response to that country’s recent Navtex blocking off an area of the sea atop Cyprus’ continental shelf from August 18 to September 15.
In response to a question raised on the website of the Hellas Journal, a State Department spokesman reiterated concern on the part of US leaders regarding Turkey’s continuing provocations, saying that America calls on Turkey to stop drilling in the Cyprus EEZ.
“The United States remains deeply concerned about Turkey’s ongoing exploration for natural resources in Cypriot waters, the spokesman stated.
“As we have said before, these provocative actions are escalating tensions in the region and we call on the Turkish authorities to stop these operations,” he added.
