Manchester United Footballer Released from Greek Jail

Manchester United football player Harry Maguire who was a arrested after a brawl with British tourists and Greek police on Mykonos has been released from jail; his trial is scheduled for Tuesday on Syros island.
Maguire and his lawyers appeared at the Syros prosecutor’s office on Saturday morning and he was set free. He is to appear at a Syros court on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old captain of the British team was arrested after participating in a brawl with other British national on Mykonos on Thursday night. When police intervened, Maguire allegedly hit a policeman as well.
Maguire was accompanied by his brother and a friend, and the three men got in a brawl with a group of British nationals. When police arrived at the spot, one of the Maquire trio allegedly threw a punch at a police officer while the other two struggled with the officers.
According to a report in the Manchester Guardian, only one of the three took the initial swing at a policeman. Police spokesman Petros Vassilakis explained “All of the three were arrested, but during the effort to do so, the other two, including the football player, got violent also. They threw down at least two policemen, hit them with their fists and kicked them.”
On Friday, the football player was also accused of trying to bribe officers after he was taken to the Mykonos police station.
According to local reports, the Manchester United captain can leave Greece, as he will be represented in court by his lawyers.
Maguire is charged with repeated bodily harm, repeatedly insulting police officers and attempting to bribe officers of the law.
