According to reports, seven Greek islands have been added to the list of places where British tourists will be obliged to quarantine when they return home from their holidays.
British Transport Secretary Grant Schapps announced today during a speech in the House of Commons that the islands of Mykonos, Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Crete, Santorini, and Zakynthos will be placed on the quarantine list, warning British residents that they must self-quarantine at their own expense for two weeks after their arrival back home from these destinations.
The new restrictions will come into force on Wednesday, September 9 at 4 AM.
Additionally, the country of Scotland has also placed the entire nation of Greece on its own, separate quarantine list.
For now, mainland Greece remains on the ‘safe’ list as far as the British authorities are concerned.
The new UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) directive comes after clearer data which was released from the Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC) and Public Health England (PHE).
The FCDO explained in a statement  “If you travel to Greece, you will need to complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) at least 24 hours before travel. Failure to do so in advance may result in your carrier not allowing you to travel, a 500 Euro fine on arrival or the Greek authorities not allowing you to enter the country.
“Every traveler, including children, must have their details included on a PLF. If you’re travelling with others outside of your household, you should all complete your own form.
“If you’re traveling together as a household, the Greek authorities ask for you to complete one form with all adults and children included.
“You can add additional members of your household at the top of the form before you submit.”
According to Paul Charles, CEO of the travel firm The PC Agency, a further review of the travel situation for British tourists will be announced on Thursday. The nations of Portugal and Italy may come under more restrictions at that time.
