New Covid Measures For Attica Announced

In the face of not only a steep increased in coronavirus cases, but higher numbers of intubated patients in the country as well, the Greek government imposed anti-virus measures in heavily-impacted regions, including Attica, on Tuesday.
Officials are especially concerned about the higher number of occupied beds in hospitals in the heavily affected areas of the country. Currently, Greek hospitals are at 60% capacity. A much larger spike in the number of coronavirus cases could overwhelm hospitals.
The measures, which will be in effect starting on Wednesday, will last until the end of September.
Nikos Chardalias, Greece’s Deputy Minister for Civil Protection, announced the list of new measures on Tuesday evening.
In bars, restaurants, and cafes in the heavily affected areas, only six people can sit together at the same table.
After recent scenes of crowding at various concerts around Greece, Chardalias announced that all entertainment venues featuring live music will remain closed for the next 14 days.
Outdoor concert-goers must be seated and they must wear masks. Outdoor venues will be kept at 50% capacity. Alcohol and smoking are to be prohibited at these venues.
Indoor theaters and cinemas will only be allowed to have 60% capacity and all patrons must wear masks throughout shows, as well as when they enter and leave the establishment.
Masks must now be worn in all enclosed spaces in workplaces — in both the public and private sectors. Additionally, masks must be worn outdoors in areas were crowding could possibly occur, such as bus stops, squares, queues, and protests, as well as anywhere where safe social distancing cannot be enforced.
Outdoor markets, or λαϊκή, will be allowed to operate, but at a reduced capacity of 50%. All sellers and shoppers must wear masks, and the stands displaying goods must be kept 3m (just under 10 feet) apart.
Only 50 people can be together in any one place now, and all retail stores, excluding supermarkets, bakeries, and food stores, will be allowed to open their doors at 10 AM in Attica.
