A Greek teenage girl has just been released from an AHEPA HospitalĀ ICU unit, where she had been kept for 40 days. The 17-year-old, who suffered from no underlying illnesses, had contracted Covid-19 and her condition had quickly deteriorated to the point where she had to be kept in the unit for an extended period of time.
She has been tested again and is now free of the coronavirus, according to a statement by her doctors on Friday morning. She is now awaiting discharge from the hospital.
This ICU youngest patient in Greece had been vacationing on the Halkidiki peninsula last month, where she fell ill on August 15th. After developing a fever and being hospitalized, her condition worsened rapidly and she had to be intubated just one day later.
In an interview with Open TV, Simos Metallidis, the director of the AHEPA Covid-19 clinic, stated that ā€œthe girl is in very good health, we are waiting for some examinations so that she can return home.
“She could have suffered organ deficiency, but we escaped the danger,” he added.
During the day on Friday, it was also revealed that the number of positive Covid-19 cases in Greece had increased to 367, after it was announced that another patient had passed away with the virus this morning.
A total of 100 individuals have now succumbed to the disease in the first 24 days of September.
The region of Attica is now the hotbed for new coronavirus cases in Greece, with 900 individuals now active for the virus in the center of Athens alone, according to Greek Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
