Questions about the tactics used by Greek police arose on Wednesday evening after a video showing Greek police breaking up the crowd of demonstrators outside the courthouse where the monumental Golden Dawn trial took place earlier in the day.

From the footage, it appears that Greek police used water cannons against the crowd in what seems to be a peaceful anti-fascist protest in Athens, apparently for no reason. According to reports, tear gas was also used against the demonstrators.
Crowds had gathered around the courthouse since the early morning hours on Wednesday to demonstrate against fascism and the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn.
Defying anti-virus measures against large gatherings, crowds of people, some not wearing masks, stood on the street in front of the courthouse, awaiting what has proven to be a historic decision from the court.
The verdict convicted prominent members of the fascist party of running a criminal organization which systematically attacked and even killed leftist activists, immigrants, and journalists in Greece.
The verdict was widely praised across Greek society as a victory for justice and democracy in the country.
