A total of 156 mobile housing units donated by the nation of Poland to be used for accommodating migrants and refugees were delivered to the Avlona Army Base, north of Athens, on Wednesday.
The new units were received by Alternate Minister of Migration & Asylum Giorgos Koumoutsakos in the presence of Poland’s Ambassador to Greece Artur Lompart.
Koumoutsakos noted in his remarks that the units will cover “the needs that arose after the recent arson at Lesvos’ Moria refugee reception and identification center,” adding that although Greece and Poland “may not always have convergent views on European migration policy… what matters is that Europe works together to tackle the migration challenge.”
The Polish ambassador explained that his country’s government “and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki personally responded to the request of the Greek government, and made a quick decision in July to purchase the mobile housing units” as a gesture of solidarity with the nation of Greece.
