Early Morning Storms Flood Athens, Western Greece

The Athens Fire Service received more than 120 calls to pump water out of basements as a heavy storm hit the Greek capital at dawn on Tuesday.
Many roads were flooded and trees fell as a barrage of lighting strikes hit between 05.00 and 07.00.
According to the Fire Service the biggest problems were recorded in the western suburbs of Peristeri, Haidari, Egaleo, Heraklion and Nea Ionia.
In Heraklion, fallen trees on the main streets have caused major traffic problem and the municipality has mobilized maintenance crews to repair the damage and to remove any fallen tree trunks, as well as any that are in danger of falling.

Storms in western Greece
Meteorologists say that thousands of lighting strikes hot the western part of Greece on Monday night. The storm flooded roads and buildings in Kefalonia and Corfu.
