Greek health authorities announced on Saturday that ten more people died of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic to 500.
It was also announced that in the last 24 hours, 482 new Covid-19 cases were detected, bringing the total number close to 25,000.
Civil Protection Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias appealed to the residents of Ioannina, a city with high epidemiological load right now, to keep to the preventative coronavirus measures “faithfully and in a disciplined manner”.
“The situation is extremely critical, there is epidemiological pressure, and the next level up is both near and far,” Hardalias said in a visit to the area, warning that getting to an emergency level would have repercussions on businesses and families.
Earlier on Saturday, at a meeting in the city of Kozani, the capital of the region where a lockdown was imposed on Friday for two weeks, Hardalias said that the regions of Kastoria and Thessaloniki are also in danger of a lockdown.
