Greek scientist and professor Spyros Pandis will be awarded the Vilhelm Bjerknes medal by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in 2021.
Pandis, a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras, will receive the prestigious award from the EGU’s Atmospheric Sciences Division.
In 2016, Maria Kanakidou, another Greek scientist, won the award, which is reserved for those who have made strides in atmospheric science.
Vilhelm Bjerknes, for whom the award was named, was a physicist and meteorologist from Norway who paved the way for today’s weather forecasting.
He developed equations that are still used to predict weather patterns today. The award was created in his honor in 1995.
The EGU will honor 51 other Greek scientists for their scientific achievements in 2021.
