A truly miraculous story took place earlier this week in Greece’s hospital of Corfu in the Ionian Sea, where the oldest hospitalized patient with COVID-19 in the country not only recovered but broke a national record too!
According to Greece’s state broadcaster ERT, the 102-year-old woman was living in a care home in the city of Ioannina, when she was diagnosed with COVID-19.
She was transferred to the hospital of Corfu, as the hospital in Ioannina was already in full capacity.
The woman showed severe symptoms, having a high fever for weeks.
However, she never needed to be intubated, and following days of a fight with the virus, the woman managed to recover, becoming the oldest person in Greece to survive from the novel coronavirus.
On Wednesday, the doctors at the hospital of Corfu decided that the elder woman will be able to return to her care home in Ioannina, as she emerged victorious from this fight.
Currently, the hospital of Corfu hosts three more patients from the same care home.
