On Friday, a total of 102 people died with Covid-19 in Greece — 21 more than had passed away yesterday, Thursday — and there are currently 571 intubated patients with the virus in the country’s hospitals.

A total of 1,385 new cases were diagnosed in the past day, just nine of which were found during routine testing at Greece’s points of entry.

A large number of Friday’s 1,385 cases were recorded in the areas surrounding Greece’s two largest urban centers — Athens and Thessaloniki.

In Attica, home to the capital city of Athens, 295 cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed. A total of 357 cases were found in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city.

Health officials warn, however, that case numbers are actually even rising in some areas of the country.

In Serres, located in northern Greece, 80 new cases were recorded Friday, and 75 in Magnesia, where the coastal city of Volos is situated.

In total, 122,648 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic, including all those who have recovered from the virus.

Of this total, 5,076 are associated with foreign travel, and 34,774 are associated with contact with a known case.

Of the 583 patients intubated currently, 76.7% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions. Their median age is 66, and 169 of the patients are female.

A total of 711 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country.

Intensive care units are currently running at an average 82% capacity across Greece.

The 102 new deaths recorded on Friday bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 3,472. Of all those who lost their lives after suffering from the virus, a total of 1,392 have been female.

The median age of those who passed away with Covid-19 is 79, and 96.0% of them were over the age of 70 or suffered from underlying health issues.
