Greek Navy Exercises Off Crete Using Live Fire

Hellenic Navy exercises ‘Spear’, ‘Seashore’ and ‘Periscope’ that started on Monday in the sea area of Myrtos as well as in the North and South Cretan seas were completed on Friday, according to the Navy General Staff.
The Hellenic Navy exercise, which involved frigates, submarines, speedboats, surveillance ships, Navy helicopters as well as Air Force aircraft, was part of the annual operational training program of all Navy units, in order to maintain and further increase the operational readiness and combat capability of the participants.
Part of the program was advanced firepower exercises against surface and air targets, with ships shooting their cannons, torpedo shots fired from submarines as well as other types of training to face all types of threats.
The live fire exercises were attended by the Chief of Navy General Staff, Rear Admiral Stylianos Petrakis, who noted the high operational readiness and the morale of the crews of the Fleet units.
The Chief of General Staff also praised the hard work, professionalism, dedication to duty, and determination of the staff of all the units, especially during the recent mobilization under the Covid-19 pandemic, and wished them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
