The brutal murder of a Chinese woman in Greece, whose body was found in a suitcase west of Athens last week, is being investigated by the authorities.
Police say they have important new evidence, including CCTV footage, that may lead to identifying the perpetrators of the crime.
The footage is from a casino on Mt. Parnitha, north of Athens, where Qiu Yun Lin was seen two days before she disappeared from her home on October 17 in the area of Metaxourgeio, central Athens.
According to sources, the video depicts the victim in the company of other Chinese nationals who are residents in Greece.
Her body was found at noon on December 29 in a wooded area near Villia, west of Athens.
Police believe that Lin was murdered, and shortly afterward her body was placed in the suitcase, which was left at a remote location at Villia.
The suitcase may contain valuable evidence that could lead to the perpetrators.
The insulating tape — and especially the sticky part of it — may reveal the fingerprints of the killer.
Police say, that, despite the fact that the suitcase remained in the open for more than two months, it is still possible to find the fingerprints, or other valuable forensic evidence.
Victim of the mafia?
Investigators are trying to ascertain how the 38-year-old was able to visit a casino, when it is known she had limited financial means and she was out of a job.
They are also trying to trace her movements since the night in the casino and her disappearance two days later. Her husband, who is in China, has also been interviewed.
Police officers have already interviewed neighbors and Chinese nationals who may have known the victim.
Some speculate that Lin may have fallen victim to an organized mafia ring.
In recent years, there have been several cases of similarly executed crimes, with bodies been discovered in suitcases, most been attributed to the so-called “Chinese mafia.”
It is estimated that about 2,000 Chinese nationals live in the center of Athens out of a total of 20,000 throughout the country.
